"I try to always start the day off right, because if I start the day eating something really unhealthy, my whole day goes down the drain. My go-to breakfast is warm water and grated ginger, it's really good for your digestive system and gets everything going."~ Bridget Regan Shares Her Tips For Healthy Living ~ Self.com ~ 05.21.10
"It's like I needed to come to a certain point to find my Kahlan without losing my sense of who I am. For me, it was more about finding the characteristics that are so strong in her within myself, finding this badass warrior within myself, and also this noble, powerful woman as well – things I didn't always tap into in my normal, everyday life."~ Q&A: Legend of the Seeker's Bridget Regan on Corsets, True Love & Being a Badass ~ Techland ~ 03.11.10
"Tab and I are a bit of a little team because our fighting styles are also quite similar, so we work together on that. And we're both in the make-up chair pretty damn early. I have someone I can say to, "Oh my god, it's not even light out yet!" We're in it together, which is great."~ Bridget Regan Tears It Up on Legend of the Seeker ~ E! Online ~ 02.12.10
"We all work really hard and know when we have to buckle down, but most of the time we just play. We approach work like it's play. The more fun we have, the more they tell us to calm down and get back to work – and we do ... I'm really enjoying Season 2."~ Bridget Regan heating up Legend of the Seeker ~ Qatar Tribune ~ 12.19.09
"Once they're in, everything is red. It's pretty intense, especially when you go out in the sun. It helps me get into that anger, that raging feeling I need to have for the scenes where I'm wearing them. It feels like something is taking you over. It's absolutely bizarre."~ Exclusive Interview: Bridget Regan (Legend of the Seeker) ~ PopStar ~ 12.12.09
"I was a bit scared going into it - 'Oh gosh, what am I in for, what am I doing?' - but it was kind of a good scary. It was scary and exciting, and I thought I should do this, take the plunge. It's actually turned out to be really, really cool, and I'm proud that I did it, because it wasn't an easy decision to pack up my life and move."~ Interview with Bridget Regan, "Legend of the Seeker" ~ Hulu Blog ~ 11.15.09
"I was always quite determined ... Apparently, I wore white cowboy boots for a year straight when I was 5. My mom always said there was no arguing with me ... I knew I wanted to be an actor."~ 'Seeker' star found spotlight ~ signonsandiego.com ~ 11.15.09
"I love acting every day ... I go to work in the dark usually, around four thirty. And then I come out of the makeup bus, with all the makeup on and everything, and there's the most insane sunrise you've ever seen ... I'm really enjoying my life down there."~ Bridget Regan from Legend Of The Seeker Interview ~ The TV Chick ~ 11.07.09
"I got a great new horse! He's so gorgeous, he's white. And me in the white dress on a white horse is just so cool ... I've never directed before, but I've just started producing and it's been a really exciting venture for me ... My love of theater and acting all stem from me being obsessed with musical theater."~ The PCZ Interview With Bridget Regan From 'Legend Of The Seeker' ~ Pop Culture Zoo ~ 11.06.09
"It's one of the joys of playing a character. I've never played a character this long and I went and I did another part in between these seasons and it was like totally jarring because I've been playing Kahlan for 9 months and playing something else is like turning rusty wheels that haven't been turned."~ Legend of the Seeker Season 2 Cast Interview ~ KDAF ~ 11.04.09
"I've really enjoyed it; working in a new place so far from my home, which has been an adventure in itself ... It's a great thing in terms of my growing as a person ... I really enjoy the physicality of my job, and playing Kahlan because it demands doing things with your body like throwing yourself around and tackling guys."~ Legend of the Seeker Bridget Regan Interview ~ Sci Fi UK ~ 08.10.09
"I'm fighting large men like three times a week. Certainly, I'm not scared of bumps in the night anymore. I feel like I could take a guy. I feel pretty tough! ... Lucy Lawless is amazing - I've had dinner with her a few times and she's so cool ... I’m sure she would totally kick my ass. After a few more years under my belt, I could try."~ Bridget Regan Previews Legend of the Seeker Finale ~ TV Guide Magazine ~ 05.22.09
"The physical challenges, emotional challenges, they're not for the faint of heart. I feel quite proud of myself that I've been up for it and been quite blessed to be challenged as much as I have been ... It doesn't air in New Zealand yet but I - this is so embarrassing - I buy it on iTunes."~ Into the Woods with Bridget Regan ~ SF Universe ~ 03.03.09
"I'm getting to play a different character that's inhabiting Kahlan's body. That's such a great challenge. A few episodes ago I got to play a Mord'Sith. I did not expect that to happen ... I keep asking, 'Are we going to get a dragon? Is there going to be a dragon in the last episode? I really want a dragon.'"~ What Seeker's Regan hopes for season two. Hint: It flies and breathes fire ~ SCI FI Wire ~ 02.24.09
"They dyed it once I moved to New Zealand and they chemically straightened it, and I was like 'Who am I?' It was like a good week of catching myself in the mirror going 'Ha' (laughs) ... I am really thankful they kept my eyes as they are, I feel like it's nice to not have any sort of untrue qualities."~ Interview: Bridget Regan from 'Legend of the Seeker' ~ Daemon's TV ~ 02.23.09
"I probably will never actually say I've made it. We're insecure creatures, we actors ... But being on Broadway was a dream I'd had since I was little girl. And to have it come to fruition - it was fantasy, coming true."~ Bridget Regan Finding What She Is Seeking ~ hmonthly.com ~ 12.19.08
"Bruce is just so lovely to work with, and we have this unique, special, almost father-daughter relationship, but at the same time Kahlan and Zedd are equals ... The coolest thing about Craig and I is that we both got the jobs, packed our bags, moved to New Zealand and dove into it."~ Bridget Regan Interview ~ Sci Fi Weekly ~ 11.02.08
"The world is not the world that we know ... I find it a world you can really escape into because it is so different ... They've really shot the show so beautifully that it doesn't look like anything on television that I know of ... They point the camera in any direction when we're outside, and it's just gorgeous, because it's New Zealand."~ Seeker Grounded, Fantastical ~ Sci Fi Wire ~ 11.02.08
"In terms of the life experience of me going and moving to New Zealand for the show has really worked well in my favor in terms of the acting work because Kahlan has given up everything to fight this mission. And I kind of gave up everything I knew to go and do the show so it worked out pretty well."~ Legend of the Seeker Star Bridget Regan Confesses ~ IGN ~ 10.31.08
"We're always pushing things to the limit and seeing how much we can take, how much we can handle. And I love that, because it means we have to keep fighting, we have to stay strong and keep pushing."~ Seeker Spins New Tales ~ Sci Fi Wire ~ 10.29.08
I'm going to let you sit back and soak this in, it's a delightful read:
Camp Wanatachi is not simply a departure from Legend of the Seeker, it is a prison break. The music and acting that was performed at the concert was unique and seemed to be controlled chaos at times. It is very different from anything you would expect Bridget Regan to be involved with, and maybe that was why she chose to do it, to branch out and move away from her identity as the face of the action adventure/fantasy genre she has become. I was intrigued by her involvement and so I made it a point to go to this concert, just on the chance that I could ask her myself. If anyone had looked in on the many sources of information regarding the show’s concept, mainly the page that Bridget has updated through her Twitter, (www.campwanatachi.com), you pretty much got the picture. Camp Wanatachi is trying to take a major step towards a run as an off-Broadway production. As with all projects of this sort, it needs love, nurturing and most of all, financing. If you wish to support the show and Bridget’s efforts, consider donating to the cause.
However, this article is more about Bridget herself, which is probably why you are reading it. Before I go any further, let me just say that I got to talk with Bridget for a short time after the concert and I don’t want to keep you in suspense. One of the questions I asked her was about the status of Legend of the Seeker. She said she still has no idea what is going to happen with the show. Sorry, folks, but I believe her.
I was pretty impressed when I did get to see Bridget before the Camp Wanatachi Benefit Concert on June 3rd. She was taking a hands-on approach lugging equipment bins in a stunning red dress, dealing with the box office and greeting people at the doors to the event. She was classy and gracious and was busting her butt to make sure everything went without a hitch, as any good producer should. I was finally able to ask her what her motivation was for becoming involved in Camp Wanatachi. As you may know, she has always had a passion for musical theater since she was young (remember her Rizzo costume for Halloween?). When a friend had her listen to a song written by Natalie Weiss, creator of Camp Wanatachi and a friend of Bridget’s from their time at acting school, she was immediately blown away by the distinctive sound and felt inspired to lend her support to the project. She has done this by becoming a co-producer, adding her name to the project to increase interest and dedicating a tremendous amount of time and effort to its success since returning to the U.S. after wrapping up her role on Legend of the Seeker in New Zealand.
During our conversation I was really put at ease with her charming, laidback manner. It felt like I was chatting with a friend I hadn’t seen in years, as opposed to a beautiful actress from a popular TV series. Our conversation ranged across all sorts of topics, about her current and upcoming projects and her experiences in show business up to this point. After my brief interaction with her I came to three conclusions: she’s the kind of person who is a great friend to those around her, she is genuinely kind, sincere and straightforward, and she is a hell of a lot of fun to be around.
As far as the rest of the evening went I felt Camp Wanatachi was a change of pace from the ordinary theater musical. It’s a production that was written and composed by Natalie Weiss. She has taken a story from the pages of her own life and turned it into a soulful expression of teenage angst and sexual confusion. Self described as “experimental theater”, it had an adventurous and often lighthearted score, unprecedented use of graphic design and sound, and both sincere and irreverent views on Christian rhetoric. Songs like the expressive “Let’s Ride Bareback” and the provocative “Use Spit” certainly delivered a punch.
The cast members and musicians from Camp Wanatachi also made themselves available after the concert. They were all very generous with their time during a VIP Reception. Natalie Weiss, (who also played the role of Corky the camp councilor) was enthusiastically greeting people and holding court with a ready smile and a handshake for all of the guests. Amy Gironda (Daisy), probably the most convincing 13 year old with an attitude in an adult’s body, has been working with the project since its inception and warmheartedly talked about her hopes for the success of the project. We didn’t get a chance to speak to any of the other talented cast members, Laurel Harris (Jana), Alice Lee (Lauren), Courtney Wolfson (Titi), and David Andrew Morton (Joel). But they all captured the uncertainty, awkwardness and splendor of youth and deserve praise for their performances.
CineTVBuzz is going to be covering Bridget's appearance at the Monte Carlo TV Festival next month (June 6th to 10th) and they would love to hear your suggestions for questions to ask her!
Post your questions for her in the comments here and we'll send in a compiled list next week! :)
